About Book Donations
Thank you for thinking of us! But before you drop off your used books and other items at the Library, please keep in mind:
Donations of books can be complicated: What we can use is very limited in terms of condition, age, and topic. We understand that the desire to share a wonderful book collection when cleaning out someone’s personal library is filled with sentiment. However there are many times that older libraries see the effects of age, sunlight, dust, mold, and out-of-date information. Therefore, we ask that the only items donated to us are in clean condition, no dust or mold or yellowing discoloration. We will recycle the items left with us, but it adds a burden to staff and storage.
We are looking for the latest in Fiction and Non-Fiction. We are unable to use older encyclopedias, medical textbooks, textbooks in general, any books with writing or underlining. Typically, we add very few titles to the collection unless the donation can fill in a gap. The best use for the books which we receive as donations is using them as inventory in our “Gently Used Bookstore.” We also use the books to sell in our two annual book sales, Winterfest Book Sale on the last Saturday in January and Summer Solstice Book Sale, traditionally in mid-June. All proceeds benefit the Library through the Plymouth Public Library Corporation.
What other material can we use? We also accept DVDs, audiobook CDs, and music CDs that have original packaging. No personally recorded items can be accepted. We also no longer accept VHS tapes or cassette tapes.
How to donate items: If you are bringing a box or more, please call in advance and make an appointment with Noelle Poremski, Corporation Coordinator, at 508-830-4250, ext. 222. She can arrange a drop-off time that will allow for staff to manage the donation. If you have just a few items, please feel free to drop them off at the front desk.
And finally, thank you! We appreciate your on-going kindness throughout the year with your generous donations. We want to thank you in advance.
