The
Plymouth Collection houses the library's collection of over 1200 items
relating to the descendants of the Mayflower Pilgrims, as well as many
other immigrants who settled in the area. In the 19th and 20th centuries
Plymouth attracted and assimilated a post-Yankee wave of Italian, Portugese,
German and French immigrants through the largest rope manufacturing company
in the world. By the end of the 20th century, Plymouth had grown from
a mill town of 9,500 residents to a sprawling community of more than 50,000.Resources in the Plymouth Collection are supported through the Rev. Robert M. Bartlett Fund and the Arthur Lord Fund of the Plymouth Public Library Corporation. The Collection is accessible to the public during normal library hours, thanks to a knowledgeable and dedicated staff and the assistance of trained volunteers, who conduct research and are involved in special projects. These ongoing projects are among the most exciting outgrowth of activity generated from within the Plymouth Collection and they compliment and supplement the historic collection already in place at the library. Many projects involve the organization and creation of finding aids for Plymouth information that simply do not exist by any other means. If you are unable to visit the Plymouth Collection, our volunteers, under the supervision of librarians, are available to assist you with your research. Please bear in mind that given the volume of requests we receive, it may take us 4-6 weeks to respond. For information on how to submit a request, click on Submit a Research Request. test | |||
