Do you know how to find information from Consumer Reports for free by using your library card? There are three ways! Use your library card to access the latest issue...

Do you know how to find information from Consumer Reports for free by using your library card? There are three ways!

Use your library card to access the latest issue of Consumer Reports on-line by setting up a Zinio account. This will enable you to download a copy of the magazine which you can read on your home computer, tablet, or smartphone. For directions about setting up a Zinio library account, please click here.

Do you need to see what Consumer Reports had to say about a specific product? Want to find an article from a few months back? Click here to visit our Research page and log-in to the Consumer Reports database. (You will need to enter your library card number to use this resource). This database enables you to search by subject and will bring up the recommendations and evaluations of everything from cars to vitamins.

Finally, when you are visiting the library, you can always read copies of the magazine. In the Ready Reference section (right next to the reference desk), we keep non-circulating copies of Consumer Reports, from the current month back to 2010. In the Periodicals section, we also stock copies of Consumer Reports from this year and last. You can check out and take these magazines home with you (except for the most recent issue, which can not be checked out, but can be used while you are here).

On Tuesday, May 14 at 7pm, actress and author Marianne Leone Cooper will discuss her book Jesse, A Mother’s Story. It chronicles the life of her son, an honor-roll student who loved to windsurf and write poetry. He also had severe cerebral palsy and was quadriplegic, unable to speak, and wracked by seizures. He died suddenly at 17.

Marianne Leone is an actress, screenwriter and essayist. She had a recurring role on HBO’s “The Sopranos” as Joanne Moltisanti, Christopher’s (Michael Imperioli’s) mother. She has also appeared in films by John Sayles, Nancy Savoca, Martin Scorcese, the Farrelly Brothers, and Larry David. Her essays and op-ed pieces on a variety of topics have appeared in the Boston Globe, WBUR’s Cognoscenti blog and The Bark magazine.

She is married to Chris Cooper, an Academy-Award winning actor and was Jesse Cooper’s mother for 17 years. After his death in 2005, her essay on grief was published in the Boston Globe (“He Was Out Touchstone”.) Her memoir grew out of that essay.
